Sponsored posts on Facebook come in different formats, and it’s important to determine which one is well-suited for your business goals. There are two types of sponsored posts on Facebook: boosted posts and ads. We discussed the powers of Facebook Ads in our previous blog post, but now, we’re going to explain what you should know about Facebook boosted posts.

What is a Facebook Boosted Post?

A boosted post on Facebook is a type of sponsored content in the form of a page post on a Facebook business page. Depending on how you create your target audience, the boosted post is usually placed higher on a user’s News Feed, increasing the chances that your followers will see it. (While targeting is allowed for boosted posts, more selective targeted is only permitted for Facebook Ads.) It’s a good idea to boost original content that already performing well on Facebook and is linked back to your website. Budget-wise, a good rule of thumb is to spend at least $20 for every 10 days your boosted post is set to run on Facebook.

How to Create a Facebook Boosted Post

Step 1: Click “Boost Post”

To get started, click the blue “Boost Post” button located in the bottom right-hand corner of your post.

Step 2: Select your target audience

Once you click “boost post,” you will be directed to a menu that will allow to create an audience. You can choose to reach more of the people who like your page and their friends. You can also choose to target people based on their age, location, gender or interests. Don’t forget to give your audience a name so you can use it again for future posts.

Step 3: Set a budget and duration

In the budget field, you can select how much you want to spend and for how long you want the post to run. You will be given an estimate of how many people your post may reach each day.

Step 4: Publish your post

If everything is to your liking, click the “Boost” button and your post will be delivered to your audience after a quick ad review process through Facebook. The purpose of the review process is to make sure your post complies with Facebook’s guidelines for boosted posts.  As your post reaches people, you will be able to track its performance through the actual page post.
